Program for Foreign Students in 2003 on Computer
Science and Information Engineering
The Department of
Computer Science and Information Engineering at
National Central University, Chung-Li, Taiwan,
offers two highly qualified overseas students
opportunities to pursue their Ph.D. degrees under
financial supports (NCU Fellowship). The program
normally starts in September and requires a minimum
residency of three years for Ph.D. candidates.
Research supervision and guidance are conducted
in English; while doctoral dissertations, reports,
examinations and presentations by the students
may also be given in English.
1. Qualifications:
Applicants must have
the following qualifications:
(a) Master¡¦s Degree
in Computer Science or related areas, and
(b) in good mental
and physical health.
2. Schedule of application
and admission:
Applicants should
submit their completed applications, described
below, as early as possible and certainly no later
than the deadline April 15, 2003, for admission
in Fall semester 2003. Incomplete applications
cannot be considered and late applications are
at a distinct disadvantage.
3. Requirements (All
materials should be presented in English.)
(a) Program application.

(b) TOEFL. An official
score report for the TOEFL test must be received
from applicants whose native language is not English.
(c) GRE. Applicants
are encouraged to take the Graduate Record Examinations
test "GRE" which is administered by
the Educational Testing Service "ETS".
(d) Transcripts.
Applicants must submit an official copy of all
previous university and colleges attended (including
undergraduate and graduate). If transcripts are
not in English, an official English translation,
certified by the college or university, must be
provided along with an official transcript in
the native language. A certified copy of a diploma
will be required if a transcript does not show
or states the awarding of a baccalaureate degree.
(e) An official copy
of a diploma of master¡¦s degree.
(f) Master thesis
or representative publications.
(g) Letters of recommendation.
Three letters of recommendation are required.
Academic or professional recommendations are acceptable.
(h) Statement of
purpose. A written essay concerning your purpose
for pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree, your
reasons for wanting to study at National Central
University, your research interests, along with
your professional plans for the future.
4. Financial supports:
Two NCU Fellowships
are available for the first year. Teaching assistantships
are also available for the years that follow.
